Mamata was established in the year 1983 with initiative and drive of a group of dedicated social workers of the Chittagong
city to ensure Health, Family welfare services, poverty alleviation, socio-economic developmnet, gender and establishment of human
rights.Mamata believes that family is the focal point of social up-liftment and it attaches top priority on capacity building towards
better livelihood , poor and disadvantage segment of population.
Mamata initially started its activities on Health and Family Welfare sector with the financial assistance and technical supported of Ministry of Health and Family Welfare (MOSFW) and International Donors. To attain its vision, Mamata has gradually expanded its activities in multi-sectoral dimension in addition of Health and Family Welfare. It has establishment its activities on sound footing in the field of Micro Finance, non-formal education, Woman development, Pure drinking Water and Sanitation, HIV/AIDS Prevention, Programs on Adolescent, Youth and Child and Advocacy on Human Rights and Rights based activities especially for working women and children .
The purpose MAMATA is to upgrade socio-economic condition of the disadvantaged groups of people in health; living condition,education and IGA and to establish their rights guaranteed by the constitution of the Country and International charters where Bangladesh is one of the signatories.Mamata intends to increase services cost recovery,community support and skilled staff with a view to initiating sustainable journey in development arena of Bangladesh.

MAMATA received "National Population Award" in the years 1991,1999,2000,2002,2007,2010, 2012 and 2013 for outstanding success in the feild of Family Planning, Mother and Child Health Care Services.
MAMATA was awarded by Chittagong City Corporation and other Organaizations for the meritorious services in the field of EPI and Polio eradication campaigns.
The Chief Executive of Mamata, Mr. Rafique Ahamed, was awarded Gold Medal from the Federation of Social Welfare Associations for his outstanding contribution in social work.
The Chief Executive of Mamata, Mr. Rafique Ahamed, was awarded "Best Social Worker" for Chittagong in 2000 by Social Welfare department.
